Privacy Policy
How HumToSearch collects, uses, and protects information when you use our music discovery guide and directory.
Last updated: September 9, 2026.
HumToSearch helps visitors choose practical routes for identifying songs by humming, lyrics, live audio, or video clips. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how third-party services may process data when you use this website.
Information we collect
We collect limited information in three main ways:
- Information your browser sends automatically, such as IP-derived approximate location, device type, browser type, referring page, pages visited, and basic technical logs.
- Analytics information about how visitors use the site, including page views, language selection, outbound tool clicks, and general engagement signals.
- Information you submit through the tool submission form, such as website name, website URL, logo URL, category, description, contact email, source page, and locale.
We do not ask visitors to create accounts, upload audio files, record songs, or submit payment details on HumToSearch.
How we use information
We use information to operate the site, understand which music discovery routes are useful, review submitted tools, prevent spam and abuse, improve content quality, measure site performance, and maintain security.
Tool submissions are reviewed manually before inclusion. Contact email addresses submitted through the form are used for review, verification, abuse prevention, and follow-up about that submission.
Cookies, analytics, and advertising
HumToSearch uses Google Analytics to understand site usage. Analytics tools may set cookies or use similar technologies to measure visits and interactions.
With your permission, HumToSearch uses Microsoft Clarity heatmaps and session replays to understand how visitors navigate this website. Clarity is loaded only after you choose to allow this optional analysis. It may collect page interactions and technical information, including device and browser details, using cookies and similar technologies. Form content is masked. We do not send audio recordings to Clarity. Replays cover this website, not your activity on the external tools we link to.
You can allow or decline Clarity using the site prompt and change your choice through “Replay privacy settings” at the bottom of the page. We store this preference in your browser for up to 180 days. Withdrawing permission stops Clarity after a page reload; it does not automatically erase data previously collected. This control applies to Clarity session analysis; Google Analytics is described separately above. See Microsoft’s Privacy Statement for Microsoft’s data practices.
Advertising is currently disabled on HumToSearch. We will update this policy if the advertising setup changes.
Google explains how it uses data from partner sites at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
You can manage cookies through your browser settings. You can also visit Google’s ad settings and industry opt-out pages where available in your region.
Third-party links
HumToSearch links to external music recognition tools, app stores, search products, lyric sites, and community services. When you click an external link, the destination site is responsible for its own privacy practices. Review that site’s policy before submitting personal information or uploading media there.
Data sharing
We do not sell personal information submitted through the tool submission form. We may share limited data with service providers that help operate the site, process form submissions, send notifications, analyze traffic, prevent abuse, host the website, or serve advertising. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the site, users, or the public.
Data retention
We keep form submissions and operational logs for as long as needed to review submissions, prevent abuse, maintain records, and operate the website. We may delete submissions that are spam, incomplete, abusive, or no longer relevant.
Children’s privacy
HumToSearch is a general-audience website and is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the site, analytics setup, advertising setup, or legal requirements change. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new date.
Audio recognition
When you start a recording, we request microphone permission and capture a short audio clip. You can instead choose an audio file. Your browser converts a short excerpt to a standard audio format and sends it to our recognition service. We process the audio temporarily in memory and do not save recordings to files, object storage, or a recording history. Cancelling or leaving the page stops microphone capture; requests already received may finish or time out before their memory is released. Your original uploaded file stays on your device.
The recognition service derives an acoustic fingerprint and sends it to NetEase Cloud Music for matching. NetEase’s retention and processing are governed by its own policies; our no-recording-storage statement does not make a claim about its fingerprint retention. Do not record private conversations. Recognition results may be incorrect, especially for humming.
We may collect recognition-start, result-status, candidate-open and voluntary found/not-found feedback events to understand whether the feature helps. These analytics events do not include the recording, fingerprint, filename or returned song title. Basic request metadata can be processed by our hosting service. Short-lived request counters help limit abuse.
